Jonathan Formica is a multiple Emmy® nominated documentary filmmaker and producer who is dedicated to telling nuanced stories that engage, educate, and challenge audience perspectives.
He most recently produced three episodes of CNN’s new travel and food series TONY SHALHOUB BREAKING BREAD (2025) with Lionsgate Alternative Television. Previously he produced two episodes of Peacock’s Primetime Emmy® nominated docuseries SNL50: BEYOND SATURDAY NIGHT (2025) with Tremolo Productions, Broadway Video, and NBC Universal. With unprecedented access to Saturday Night Live’s archives and talent, each episode dives into a different aspect and inner-workings of the show’s storied fifty year history.
Jonathan’s other notable projects include producing Netflix’s WHAT’S NEXT: THE FUTURE WITH BILL GATES (2024) and co-producing the Netflix documentary feature HACK YOUR HEALTH: THE SECRETS OF YOUR GUT (2024). His work has taken him across four continents, producing international shoots in Botswana, Burkina Faso, Brazil, Germany, Iceland, Japan, Kenya, Nigeria, and Saudi Arabia.
His career started at Vox Pop Films, where he oversaw day to day operations, a diverse portfolio of commercial and branded-film, and produced the feature documentary, THE HUMAN TRIAL (2022 / ABRAMORAMA). Jonathan is a member of the Producers Guild of America (PGA) , Television Academy (ATAS), and a graduate of Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.
